What’s your home decoration style?
My decorating style is probably best described as “If it makes me smile, it gets a spot.”
I love old things that look like they’ve lived a life before finding their way to me. Oversized clocks. Distressed wood. Vintage-looking signs with words that remind me who I want to be. Warm lamps that make a room feel like someone is always home.
Then I sprinkle in pieces that tell my story.
A vase overflowing with hydrangeas because fresh flowers make an ordinary Tuesday feel special. A Hamilton book because some stories deserve a permanent place in the room. And yes…a sign that simply says FABULOUS because sometimes we all need a little reminder – plus it’s my fave word.
I don’t worry much about whether something is trendy. Trends come and go faster than my Amazon deliveries. Home should feel like a collection of your favorite memories, not a page torn from a furniture catalog.
When people walk into my house, I don’t want them to notice the furniture first. I want them to feel comfortable. I want them to see little pieces of my family, my personality, and the things that make me laugh, think, and appreciate life.
Maybe that’s my decorating style after all.
Not farmhouse. Not rustic. Not vintage.
Just…me.

this picture is fabulous. I love that kind of a look.

I enjoyed this. Somewhere along the way we’ve convinced ourselves that our homes should impress people instead of reflecting who we are. Yet the rooms I remember most aren’t the ones with perfect furniture or designer colors. They’re the ones that quietly told me something about the people who lived there.
I think the best homes become a kind of autobiography. Every well-worn chair, faded photograph, or odd little keepsake is a chapter that doesn’t need explaining. It simply belongs because it matters to someone.
Your closing line really captures that idea. In the end, “just…me” may be the only decorating style that never goes out of fashion.
Thank you for sharing this. It was a lovely reminder that authenticity never goes out of style.

your style is the BEST style precisely because it is a reflection of you and the light of positivity you give! Mike 🙂

Your decorating style is very cool. My wife hates blank walls and I often wish they were more subtle but her style is creative chaos. It’s just an overload at times, we share a 1 bedroom apartment with our cat.

It’s so hard to find balance. I like the term creative chaos though. Hope your week is going great! 😊

No, worse. Found out I have to redo a number of pages because a tiny way too hard to catch piece of fiber is on text on a number of images…do i went from a frustrated and angry day to a very depressed day 😟

It has to speak to me. I can’t buy something just to have it. 😊

Home should be our sanctuary and reflect the cozy parts of our lives. I’m sure yours is perfect and people feel comfortable.

In true Hamilton fashion — it looks to me like a room where it happens!! A room of friends and big thinkers. Love it Kiki.

It sounds so peaceful and inviting. Most everything in my home has a history and almost all of it was given to me secondhand 🙂

Twinnie, love this! Another thing that we’re so alike on. I have stuff from college-era garage sales that I still have just cos it still speaks to me. Other stuff from my early years with the fam, lots of sentimental stuff there/good vibes. Other is homemade stuff from the kids. It’s like going into your pantry and randomly throwing together 5-6 things…but it always comes out right.
LOVE your pic…it’s the kind of place you come in, kick off the flip flops and settle down with some ☕️ or 🍺 and get caught up 😎👏❤️

I love paintings and decorative plates, if found in antique markets even better.
And like you I don’t go with trends as I believe a house to be a hone must reflect the soul and life of its inhabitants not the latest trend, that’s for hotels😉

Exactly! Something has to speak to me – literally. The sign on the right… it is from the Broadway musical “Beautiful“ by Carole King… The first time I heard it, I burst into tears. My daughter was sitting next to me and never forgot my reaction. She had that sign made causing even more tears!

I am with you, I am not trendy. I love color and buying something that “speaks” to me. I must connect with it. My grandfather was an artist and I have some of his work on my walls. My knick knacks in my bookcase were my mother’s and gifts and of course, so many books that I have read and loved. ☺️ Thanks!
